Quiddiya investment company has partnered up with Six Flags to build a new amusement park in outside Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The park is said to be over 75 acres and have over 25 attractions including one of the most insane roller coasters of all time. The recently unveiled Falcon’s Flight will be the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster.
The coaster will launch riders over a vertical cliff and then dive into a 525 foot deep valley using magnetic motor acceleration. Riders will dive into a 525-foot valley, and soar at speeds of more than 155 mph through the over 2 1/2 mile long track.
In comparison the world’s fastest roller coaster currently is the Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which hits a top speed of 149.1 mph. The U.S. holds the record for the current tallest roller coaster. Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey stands at over 450 feet high. Kingda Ka is also currently the world’s second-fastest coaster, hitting 128 mph. The worlds longest roller coaster is Steel Dragon 2000 at Japan’s Nagashima Spa Land amusement park in Nagashima, Kuwana and is ?????????? long
Intamin, the company that is designing Falcon’s Flight, is beating it’s own record once again. Intamin built the worlds tallest and fastest roller coaster back in the early 200’s. Top Thrill Dragster opened at Cedar Point hitting over 400 feet and over 100mph. Shortly afterward a similar coaster was built at Six Flags Great Adventure known as Kingda Ka. The Six Flags ride took the record for the worlds tallest and fastest coaster when it opened in 2005. Not long after Intamin broke it’s speed record again opening Formula Rossa at Ferrari World. The height record has yet to be broken again.
The previous rides Intamin built that claimed the worlds tallest or fastest title have all been launch coasters and have been known to be maintenance nightmares. Six Flags and Cedar Fair had been going taller and faster every few years claiming both records from each other until the investment wasn’t worth it anymore. The tallest coaster in the world that isn’t launched is Fury 325 at Carowinds built by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M). Some are worried that Falcons Flight may be too ahead of it’s time and be a maintenance nightmare and possibly lose money for the new park.
The ride will last about three minutes and hold 20 riders at a time. Coaster engineers say passengers will “experience the exhilaration of three electromagnetic propulsion launch systems” while also enjoying the “panoramic views of Six Flags Qiddiya and the Resort Core.” Phillipe Gas, Qiddiya’s Chief Executive Officer has said that the ride is in the engineering stage. He also said “Falcon’s Flight will dominate the skyline at Qiddiya weave all the way around our destination, right out of the theme park, up the cliffside, and down the cliff face — the greatest drop of any ride in the world, and it won’t be for the fainthearted!”
Falcon’s Flight is set to open in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
