After days of negotiations the senate passed a new $1.9 trillion stimulus package Tuesday. The vote was 50-49 with no republicans voting for the package. President Biden offered Republicans a negotiation chance even though he knew he could pass the bill without them. On Monday President Biden met with 10 Republican Senators who proposed a $600 billion package. They didn’t come to a deal and the original package was passed in the senate the next day. The bill will move forward.
The package is to come after a stimulus package passed during the Trump administration weeks ago. The package will include $1400 checks which when added to the $600 passed a few weeks ago equals the $2000 that many democrats and Trump tried to push weeks ago. The package will also include $400 unemployment benefits, money for states, and money set aside to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour gradually.
