As of Sunday at 7am Israelis will no longer be restricted to within 1,000 meters of their homes so long that the lockdown isn’t extended again. National parks will open and restaurants will be permitted to offer takeout.
Ben-Gurion Airport will remain closed for at least another two weeks – until February 21 as per a decision made Thursday. A decision regarding the opening of kindergartens will be reached this week following discussions by the Health and Education ministries.
Initially the lockdown was to be extended until Sunday midnight. Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit invalidated the vote saying it was not legal. His reasoning was ‘according to the coalition agreement, votes must be based on blocs rather than on the number of ministers.’ Following his block of extending the lockdown a new vote was held and it a unanimous decision was made to extend the lockdown until Sunday morning.
