A huge storm fell over the tri-state area last night, dumping over half a foot of snow. Th snow should start to pick up speed late Monday that could ultimately bury New Jersey in 2 feet of snow, and NYC in up to a foot and a half. The worst weather will start in the afternoon.
NJ Governor Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency in his state, while NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio have declared a state of emergency for NYC and the surrounding counties. NYC schools have moved remote for Monday and will likely stay remote on Tuesday but are waiting the Mayors decision. Most flights in the area have been cancelled. As of early Monday over 400 flights have been cancelled do to the storm
New Jersey Governor shut most public transportation while the MTA has shut all outdoor trains in NYC with busses possibly getting shut down in case of road closures. Mayor De Blasio restricted all non essential travel on Monday starting 6am.
Wind gusts could near 50 mph creating whiteout or even blizzard conditions in parts of the tri-state late Monday. NYC has suspended all alternate side for the next few days while parking meters remain in effect.
