Republicans across the country are moving to attack some of the voting methods used in the 2020 election. Although most legislative sessions have barely started, the Brennan Center for Justice, has already counted more than 100 bills in 28 different states that want to restrict voting access more than was restricted in 2020. Many of those bills are aimed at limiting mail voting, and strengthening voter ID requirements.
Many Republicans have said the new bills are meant to shore up public confidence after Trump and his GOP allies, criticized the election as fraudulent.
The proposals are advancing in Texas, other traditional red states, and also in swing states like, Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania. States that supported The Former President – Donald Trump four years ago, and flipped for President Joe Biden by narrow margins this November.
In the 2020 election over 65% of all ballots cast nationwide came in before Election Day. The surge came after states expanded access to mail voting and early voting, with a few states sending absentee ballots to all registered voters.
