The CDC has looked at more than 11,000 nursing homes facilities that were near vaccination sites and found that while 78% of residents got at least one shot, only 37.5% of staff members did.
Previous data showed that people who work in nursing homes and long-term care facilities get flu vaccines at lower rates than other health-care workers. The reason for this is likely because many nursing home workers don’t think viruses spread easily from them to the people they care for, and some even think the shots don’t work.
The CDC tried getting vaccine distribution centers near nursing homes and long term care facilities as much as possible to try and stop the spread in the highest risk locations. Though some aren’t vaccinating the spread will likely be slowed immensely.
